I took part in some zoom based education this week provided by the lovely Lisa at Photography Farm and featuring a pretty broad spectrum of very interesting speakers (including one of my long time photographic heroes, Zack Arias.

One seminar, by photographer Nadia Meli was especially inspiring. I didn’t know Nadia’s work before the line-up was announced (there’s a lot of photographers around the keep up with!) but so glad to have discovered her work. It really strikes a chord with me and how I want people to feel when they see my own work. There’s a lot going on in her photos. It’s incredibly difficult to capture so much in such simple, clean compositions. I’m a big fan (can you tell?)

Nadia spoke about art in photography and ways to interpret out own work. In our current closed down state, she challenged us to dig into our archives and create a set of images that work as a whole, serving a theme. As an antidote to current claustrophobic conditions, I wanted to push in the other direction and give myself a sense of space.

These are open skies and empty landscapes. Some personal work and some shot during inbetween moments on jobs.

Space.

Thanks again Lisa & Nadia and all of the other speakers at Thrive.
