365 // Week 1

I think it's relatively natural to, as the year comes to a close, take stock and look objectively at where you are. Both in life and with regards to work. One thing that I knew in the back of my head for the past few months is that I need to start taking more photographs for me. Not of anything in particular or for any reason other than the pleasure of making photographs. As with any hobby that becomes work, stresses are added and it can become difficult to find the reason that you fell in love with it in the first place.

So I decided that I was going to (again!) start a 365 project and aim to make a new photograph every day for a year. Sounds easy, but I know from a couple of botched attempts in the past that as time goes on you find days that don't seem interesting enough to be photo worthy. Hopefully this time I'll make it to the end this time.

I'm posting the daily photos on my instagram & blipfoto and I'm going to post a weekly update here. I'd love to hear any thoughts on these and the next 51 weeks!

Wish me luck!

Day 2 Today was an incomprehensibly sad day for Glasgow. Another one far too soon after the last.

I wasn't born here and didn't grow up here, but it is above any other place where I feel at home. It is a city of character and fun and friendliness and something else that can't really be described. It is a city of its own and I will always love it with all my heart. And so, when something happens as tragic as the events of today in George Square, it hits home. It's like my own family or friends have been taken.

Horrific things happen every day, but it's often difficult to absorb their true impact until they happen this close to home.

I don't know the people involved today but I feel such a deep sadness for they way that they have so abruptly passed.

I went into the city today to do some Christmas shopping and I had an idea if the image I wanted for this 365 project (reflecting how busy the place was). After what happened the concept of Christmas shopping seemed so insignificant.

A few years ago, with my best friend, I took a photo which is one of my personal favourites. I went to do something similar tonight as I hope it captures some of the vibrancy and light that I feel every time I arrive in the city and is maybe more appropriate tonight that the rammy of the Christmas rush.

Thoughts are with the family and friends of this affected today.

Rest well x

Day 3 Today is my mum's birthday. Happy birthday Christine, couldn't ask for better.

Day 4 I'm back home in Ayrshire for a couple of days over Christmas. It's always a little strange coming back at this time of year; it's generally the most time I spend here and it always makes me realise that other than my family and a few good friends, there isn't really much about the actual place that I feel close to. A definite exception to that is this. I definitely miss being beside the sea, especially when the wind is doing its best to blow you off your feet!

Day 5 Beautiful day on the east coast after a long drive from the west. Pretty similar composition to yesterday but looking in a totally different direction. Hope you've had a nice Christmas with the people that matter to you. One love

Day 6 #day6 before I get to this wee lass. Feels like it's been forever, in the best way possible. Taken as we were leaving our flat. Glasgow tenement closes seem to be designed to throw the most beautiful pockets of light.

Day 7 Waked in to town today for a platelets donation. The walk took a lot longer than usual as the light was pretty stunning. This is a new build on George St. Lots of nice angles for the light to play with.
