Exploring USA // PCH
4 weeks ago we landed in New York City.
Many detours, lots of gas stops, lots of great people, too much money on the Vegas blackjack tables and several thousand miles under our tires, eventually we did our toes in the clearest blue Pacific Ocean. On first dip, cold enough to freeze you, after a while, an incredible reward for the hours spent in the car.
We watched sunset in Carmel, pulled off the road at every other bend, felt the hairs stand on end at the first sight of the jagged rock faces being battered by the ocean.
Without doubt, the most incredible stretch of road on the trip.
The Pacific Coast Highway stretches the length of the California coast, hugging the ocean, it's hard to keep your eyes on the road. It's so easy to understand why this part of the country in particular holds such an air of romance and features so heavily in literature and song. Since I first read 'On The Road' and then 'Big Sur' I've had JK's vision of California in my head. It's a beautiful thing to be here and see the same sights.
“The empty blue sky of space says 'All this comes back to me, then goes again, and comes back again, then goes again, and I don't care, it still belongs to me”
― Jack Kerouac, Big Sur
My only regret is not having longer to spend here. I'd come back to the US to make this section of the trip all over again.
