Nicol & Elliott Artwork Session
Nicole & Elliott (or Andrew & Rachel) are a rootsy, americana influenced duo from Glasgow with Andrew on guitar & vocals and Rachel on fiddle & vocals. I’ve photographed Andrew loads over the years and have always loved his strong sense of identity in knowing how his music fits with his aesthetic choices. I photographed them as a duo one time prior to this in my home studio.
The goal of this session was to produce two distinct series of photographs to work across campaigns for two releases including artwork and press shots. The idea was to shoot one set inspired by the southern gothic aesthetic, fairly low key and heavily featuring water / submersion. The other set was to be much brighter, colourful, with a bit of a vintage feel.
Both of these concepts posed some challenges when shooting around Glasgow in mid-March. Working with limited daylight and ridiculous temperatures, I was asking a lot of them both (I was pretty well wrapped up, and managed to keep my feet dry) but as you’ll see, they didn’t blink and powered through like total pros. I’m delighted with how these photographs turned out and as always, it’s great to see them out in the world being used to promote their music (which, if you haven’t already, you can hit play on right here).
