Le Sans Pareil

Le Sans Pareil is a work of fiction. It is a place that could exist in any one of a hundred places, but can only exist because of the people how pass through the doors. I was given a book about blues singer Bessie Smith at the start of this year which sent me down a rabbit hole of early blues, gospel and soul music. The sound is so evocative, it is its own atmosphere. I wanted to create a set of images that try to touch on the atmosphere of this imagined club, Le Sans Pareil. My cast of characters are musicians and creatives, stepping on to stages and in to studios. I hope you enjoy this detour into one of the worlds inside my head.
